Amanda worked for the Victoria School Board, in Victoria B. C. After specializing in both College and The University of Victoria in the Child and Youth field, within the Human and Social Development Program. While also supporting the development and start of Canada’s first residential eating disorder facility in Canada, Woodstone Residence. After the opening and working at the facility as a mental health worker for four years. Amanda moved back to her home town Barrie-Innisfil, Ontario. Amanda has been employed with the SMCDSB for the last 10 years working as a substitute specialized in Child and Youth Care. Working a variety of positions from kindergarten to grade 12.
While working at the schools, Amanda has also been engaged in learning about history locally as well as our collective history. As Amanda’s education was in the Human and Social Development Program, she has found that discovering and learning about the changes and events that have shaped our history and lead to where we are now, have been very enlightening. Especially when learning about the development from a historical lens
Amanda has been contributing to many different initiatives pertaining to History. Including being on Historical Board’s while also being a member to a variety of historical associations. One such board that Amanda helped to organize and start was the Eastern European SIG group for Ontario Ancestors-The Ontario Genealogical Society.
This is Amanda’s third year on the Board as a Director for The Simcoe County Historical Association.
Currently, Amanda is assisting with the many different duties within the association as well as working on the County Wide Barn Project with SCHA and assistance from IHS. Which will be added to the County Wide Collections.
She is inspired and thankful to continue to assist within, The Simcoe County Historical Association as a member of the Board.
